Why does this seem kind of appealing now when I’d have thought it terrible 20 years ago?

Doesn’t have the front bench. Crack pipe.

I didn't notice that.. it's a good point though, half the joy of owning an old Taurus would be having a bench front seat again..

He's dreaming. A rusty old Taurus with a failed transmission should be scrap value, a junkyard wouldnt pay $600 for that.

Who needs a Lemmons car for Sad Dad Racing!

That's probably why he's trying to sell it on Facebook.. ;-)

My dad has had 3 of these T aurus wagons since 2001. We all keep trying to talk him out of them. I've had to do a lot of work on these things and it's not a great car to wrench on. Motor and trans come out with the subframe. That said, I've had a lot of fun in these cars.

If you’re looking for a winter beater that’s in good mechanical shape, I’ve got a 2007 Focus that’s four different colors down in Dayton that I’ll let go for $900...

I’ll keep that in mind for when the Mrs. insists that the Sienna is ready for the last round up.
In my
mind, we’re transitioning it to truck and snow driving commuting. In her mind, we’re about ready to sign it off to the next person..
I think I long for the days when I could drive something with plenty of knee room for the driver, an old Taurus, even a flawed one (ie lacking the bench seat) would be more comfortable than anything newer that size or smaller..

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/453500082000938/ if you want to see more pics. If I were going to keep it as my daily, I would do all the brakes, give it motor and transmission mounts, mess with the bands on the transmission, and give it a good cleaning. For sale purposes I’ll probably just give it a gas station vacuum.
The motor pulls back a bit when I rev it up, but it should be good for a few thousand more miles. Brakes don’t grind, but the inside pads are a little iffy and the rotors might not take to a resurfacing. Transmission lurches a bit like all old cars when I go from park to reverse. My buddy says it shouldn’t be awful to adjust, but he’s much more mechanically savvy than me and has done that more than a few times.
Oh yeah, did I mention that it’s four different colors? If I were to keep it, it would get wrapped yellow to match the bumper and fenders in the spring.

What trim is that replacement bumper? Or is it aftermarket?
It cleaned up nicely, though. Good work!

It’s o
ff of a ZX5 I think at the SES trim level. I don’t really know Fords super well but I’m pretty sure it’s a factory option, the Street Appearance Package. Dunno if it’s original to the car. I like the sidemarkers.

Can you manual swap a Taurus? I don't think Ford shipped them with a manual, but I know that's not necessarily a deciding factor..
